Showing at planetaria across the UK on dates between 11 January and 9 February 2025
Visit a planetarium to go stargazing under the night sky as it will appear this National Astronomy Week. The show has a special introduction from the Scottish Astronomer Royal, Catherine Heymans. You then join a live presenter as they chase the Moon across the sky past four planets and a treasure-trove of stars. The presenter will be your tour guide, showing you wonders of the universe that you will be able to spot yourself in the real sky. All you need do is look up!
Planetariums are fantastic places to go stargazing. They have clear skies all year around, comfy warm seats, and someone to explain what you’re seeing and help make sure you don’t miss the best bits. There’s something magical about sitting under a starry dome with a group of people, and it’s a great way to learn how to find your way around the sky so that you can then go outside and go star spotting by yourself.
The show will run at planetariums across the UK, including:
★ Glasgow Science Centre
★ Armagh Observatory and Planetarium
★ Sherwood Observatory (Nottinghamshire)
★ National Space Centre (Leicester)
★ Bayfordbury Observatory (Hertfordshire)
★ Royal Observatory Greenwich (London)
★ Norman Lockyer Observatory, Sidmouth (Devon).
Show timings and additional planetariums are still being confirmed – check back closer to date for the full list, for the dates the shows will be presented, and for how to book.
If you don’t want to wait until National Astronomy Week to see the stars, you can find a planetarium near you on the British Association of Planetaria website.
